[ SECRET SUBMISSIONS POST #977 ]

The first secret from this batch will be posted on September 27th.

RULES:
1. One secret link per comment.
2. 750x750 px or smaller.
3. Link directly to the image.

More details on how to send a secret in!

Optional: If you would like your secret's fandom to be noted in the main post along with the secret itself, please put it in the comment along with your secret. If your secret makes the fandom obvious, there's no need to do this. If your fandom is obscure, you should probably tell me what it is.

Optional #2: If you would like WARNINGS (such as spoilers or common triggers -- list of some common ones here) to be noted in the main post before the secret itself, please put it in the comment along with your secret.

Optional #3: If you would like a transcript to be posted along with your secret, put it along with the link in the comment!

Iced Whiskey Coffees with Whiskey Syrup and Whipped Cream
Yield: recipes makes 1, is easily multiplied total time: 35 minutes

Ingredients:

Crushed ice
8 ounces cold-brewed coffee
2 tablespoons whiskey syrup
1 tablespoon whiskey
3 tablespoons cream
Coconut whipped cream for topping
Sprinkle of cinnamon

Whiskey syrup
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup whiskey
1/4 cup water
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Coconut whipped cream
1 (14-ounce) can COLD full-fat coconut milk
2 tablespoons powdered sugar

Directions:

Fill the glass with ice. Pour in the coffee, syrup and whiskey, stirring well to mix. Stir in the cream, top with the whipped cream and sprinkle with cinnamon. This is my favorite proportion for the coffee, but you can easily change it up!

Whiskey syrup
Combine the sugar, whiskey and water in a saucepan over medium-low heat. Whisk constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture begins to bubble. Cook for 1 to 2 minutes, then remove from the heat and let cool completely. Stir in the vanilla extract and use!

Coconut whipped cream
Take the can of coconut milk out of the fridge. Open the cans and discard the liquid (save it for a smoothie!), then scoop the firm coconut meat into the bowl of your electric mixer. Beat on medium-high speed until completely whipped and thick. Beat in the sugar. Set the bowl in the fridge until ready to use.

Title: Bridesmaid with Benefits
Creator: [archiveofourown.org profile] natequarter
Rating: Teen
Word Count/Length/Size: 22,614 words
Creator's Summary: Harry Sullivan’s one rule is: not to sleep with Sarah Jane Smith. Yes, she’s hot, but falling into bed with her after every wedding must stop! But when Harry sees a new side to her, he decides that some rules are made to be broken.
Characters/Pairings: Sarah Jane Smith/Harry Sullivan, Jamie McCrimmon
Warnings/Notes: None

Reasons for reccing: This is a setting-change AU. One of the fun things about those is how the characters are integrated into it - there are a lot of Doctors and companions in this, all with reasonable reasons to be there. And Sarah and Harry are fun, meeting in a different way, but still arguing the same way.

Fixating on harmless meaningless company logos until a change is made, pressuring businesses to fire employees for wrongthink, using federal law enforcement to target political opposition, using death to score political points, pressuring platforms to oust/silence those who disagree too loudly...

I've noticed many democrats don't seem to like these things at the moment - and that's understandable.

They have recently repeatedly used these words to describe the tactics:

Unethical! - yeah, I can see that.

Illegal! - I'm no law expert but if it's not yeah maybe a few of those should be

Unconstitutional! - I also happen to not be a constitution expert but from my understanding yeah it sure seems that way

Unprecedented! - and there's the problem. One word - huge problem. I get that time slots need to be filled and multi-syllable adjectives do that well - but not that one. Perhaps if - not only did democrats stop using that word - but also acknowledged why that is a word they should not use, the nation could begin to heal. (OK it probably wouldn't do that definitely no guarantee but worth a shot right?)

Let's begin here with celebrating fifty years of the Rocky Horror Picture Show, and fifty years of what might be the most unique theatrical experience someone goes to when they go to see Rocky. (And the fact that while the thing on the screen stays the same when you go to see Rocky, everything else changes depending on where you are and what time it is.)

Organizations that fail to consider intersectionality in their diversity, equity, and inclusion will create things like employee resource groups that only capture a part of someone's experience and that elide the places where the intersectionality is unique and important. Which should make you unsurprised, but also horrified, that the Institute for Museum and Library Services budget is being given directly to propagandists for a project that will present a white man-centric view of history and demand that we all believe it as the sole and only truthful narrative of the United States.

James Dobson, creator of such abominations unto his God as Focus on the Family and the Family Policy Alliance, has gone to receive judgment at 89 years of age. Our world is far better off without him, and the damage that he has done to the world would take generations to heal if he were the only one doing his kind of damage. But like so many others, he has disciples and followers, and they will continue to perpetuate his damage into the world for generations to come.

A man who believed that violence was an answer, and who aggressively sowed the wind wherever he went, has reaped the whirlwind, killed by the violence he promoted, by a gun that he believed should have more rights than the people killed by it. He is no longer able to use his organization to promote and encourage harm to others.

The fallout from such, and plenty of other things, inside )

Last out, Bohemian Rhapsody translated and performed in Zulu and with the visual and singing styles of several other African traditions. It's worth a watch and a listen, absolutely.

The concept of Queer Time, where the signifiers of "adulthood" like marriage, children, and houses are not achieved on any kind of regular time, if at all, and therefore queer adults have to find their own ways of demonstrating to the community that they are full grown-ass adults.

And the iconic Atari CX-10 joystick as a decanter for drinking, along with a couple of Atari-logo glasses.

Sometimes, a conspiracy theory seems more exciting or satisfying than the mundane truth, and part of us wishes it were true. What if someone really is hiding cures, pulling strings behind the scenes, or uncovering cosmic secrets we're not allowed to know? These ideas appeal because they promise mystery, power, and the feeling that we are part of something bigger.

Here are a few reasons such theories can feel appealing:

1. Hope for justice or truth: If we believe that a powerful elite is suppressing good science, revelation gives the underdog a kind of moral high ground.

2. Intrigue and drama: Real events are messy, confusing, boring. A well-defined conspiracy delivers clarity: villains, motives, hidden agendas.

3. Sense of control: Believing in a hidden controlling force can paradoxically make the world feel more predictable - you know who the "bad guys" are.

Cauliflower English Muffins (GF)

Cauliflower English Muffins (GF)

Ingredients

5 cups cauliflower florets (about 1 pound)
1 cup shredded sharp Cheddar cheese
1 large egg, lightly beaten
⅛ teaspoon salt

Preparation

Preheat oven to 425°F. Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper. Place cauliflower in a food processor. Process until finely grated. Transfer to a microwave-safe bowl. Cover loosely and microwave on High for 3 minutes. Let cool slightly. Transfer the cauliflower to a clean kitchen towel and wring out excess moisture. Return to the bowl and stir in Cheddar, egg and salt until thoroughly combined. Place a 3-inch biscuit cutter on the prepared baking sheet. Fill the cutter with about ¼ cup of the batter, patting down slightly in the mold. Repeat with the remaining batter, leaving about 1 inch between each one, until you have 8 "muffins." Bake until browned and crispy around the edges, about 25 minutes. Serve with your favorite toppings or use to make a breakfast sandwich.
